Biography
Peter Williams has been a broadcaster and journalist for 45 years, most of them at TVNZ. He presents the top rating 6pm One News on weekends but has previously been a news and sports reporter who has covered many of the great sports events in the world during the last three decades. Peter has won a number of awards for his work including twice being voted Best Newsreader by the readers of TV Guide and being awarded the TP McLean Award for Sports Television after his work anchoring TV One’s coverage of the Beijing Olympics. His first wife Cecile died of ovarian cancer in 1996 when his three children were teenagers. Now Peter is a proud grandfather of six and through the Gynaecological Cancer Foundation wants to do his role in educating and informing women about the dangers of gynaecological cancers and how knowledge and early detection of these diseases can make such a difference to the outcomes in our communities.
