Biography
Dr. Brad Elkins has helped to transform eye surgery in the San Fernando Valley. In 1996, he was the first ophthalmologist in the Valley to perform LASIK as well as the first to perform cataract surgery utilizing eyedrop anesthesia and a clear corneal incision. Dr. Elkins and Dr. Aizuss were also the first in the Valley to perform, DSAEK, a type of corneal transplant. As a result, Dr. Elkins has been awarded the "Outstanding Ophthalmologist in the Valley" by the Daily News, "Southern California Super Doctors"for 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017, and the VISX Star Surgeon given to the top 5% of LASIK surgeons in the United States. Dr. Elkins was also recently chosen by his peers to be a member of an elite group of eye surgeons, the PS250. This is a list of 250 surgeons who are leading innovators in the field of cataract and premium IOL surgery. In 1996, Dr. Elkins became one of the few Fellowship trained refractive surgeons in the USA. He has performed about 8,000 LASIK procedures. Of these, over 2,000 have been performed with Intralase. Dr. Elkins graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from UCLA, and he graduated with honors (AOA) from UC San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his internship at UCLA and took his residency in ophthalmology at the famed Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. From there, he completed a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Utah. He has been a physician instructor for numerous LASIK courses. Dr. Elkins was the Medical Director of TLC-Encino from 2003 to 2007 where he was a leading provider of LASIK surgery in Los Angeles. Today, Dr. Elkins frequently lectures to other physicians on the fine points of LASIK and advanced cataract surgery. Furthermore, he has authored numerous articles on advanced cataract surgery, corneal transplantation and laser refractive surgery.
