Biography
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne Alan is our own ‘pure Geordie’. After graduating with Honours in Physiotherapy from the University of Northumbria in 1997, Alan started to specialize in chronic back care and pain management. Following 4 years working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, Alan came out to New Zealand to take up the post as Head of Rheumatology Physiotherapy at the Christchurch DHB. Alan returned home to the UK and undertook further Post- graduate study whereby aspects of cognitive behavioural and solution focus therapies were added to his array of chronic back care and manual therapy skills. Alan joined the Body in Motion team in January 2015 upon returning to New Zealand for the second time, following a 4 year tenure as Head of Musculoskeletal rehab services in Brunei Darussalam. Alan brings a wealth of clinical expertise and life experience to our team in Papamoa, and he is excited about the future for himself and his family living in this fantastic part of New Zealand. Alan is a rugby fanatic (not your typical Geordie then) and in his playing days represented Northumberland County at senior level. Alan admits he loves watching the All Blacks – unless of course they are beating England! Alan also regards himself as a semi-professional musician and loves the outdoors with a camera in hand. Alan is married to Alex and they have two young boys.
