Biography
Dr. Dorothy Oorschot is currently working as a Associate Professor / Associate Dean in the Department of Anatomy, University of Otago School of Biomedical Sciences , New Zealand. Her research interests includes Brain research, hypoxia, stem cells, stereology, connectomics. She is serving as an editorial member and reviewer of several international reputed journals. Dr. Dorothy Oorschot is the member of many international affiliations. She has successfully completed her Administrative responsibilities. She has authored of many research articles/books related to Brain research, hypoxia, stem cells, stereology, connectomics.
Research Interest
Brain research, including investigation of the effects of low oxygen levels (hypoxia) during the second trimester, or around birth, on brain development. Investigation of treatments to rescue the hypoxic-injured brain, including researching the restorative potential of adult-sourced stem cells. Mapping of the microcircuitry of the brain (i.e. connectomics) during health, and after injury, using electron microscopy. Three-dimensional anatomical methods used (i.e. stereology), primarily to increase knowledge on the basal ganglia of the brain. Stereological advice provided on request.
