Biography
Associate Professor Michael Robertson’s first university training was in philosophy, which he studied in Canada (York University and University of Toronto) and England (Oxford University). After obtaining an LL.B. at Osgoode Hall (York University) he practiced for while at the Toronto firm of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt before obtaining an LL.M. at the London School of Economics and joining the Law Faculty at Otago. Currently he teach courses in Jurisprudence, Legal Theory, and Law and Society.
Research Interest
Robertson’s main area of research is Jurisprudence. For the past decade he have been particularly interested in the contributions to legal theory of Stanley Fish (who visited the Otago Law Faculty in 2008). He also research in the areas of property theory and the modern business corporation (from a law and society perspective). Recently he has started to work in the area of law and popular culture, especially law and film.
