Biography
Nicola joined the department in 2010. Since that time she has coordinated and taught the large 100 level core paper and has also worked on ACCT222. Nicola was one of the top ten teachers at the University of Otago, as voted by students in 2015. She has a passion for accounting education and is currently a PhD candidate investigating the self-efficacy beliefs of accounting students. She is student focused, both in teaching and research activities. Nicola is very active in the department as a course approver and advisor, member of the AKO teaching and learning committee, the tutor coordinator for the department, and the KaiÄwhina MÄori in Accounting and Finance.
Research Interest
Nicola is primarily an accounting education researcher. She is involved with several projects investigating students and their learning styles, attitudes and environment. Nicola has a particular interest in the motivation, self-efficacy and mind-set of accounting students. Nicola’s Master’s thesis was on performance management and motivation.
