Biography
George Agbo has acquired NCE (2001), BA (2006) and MFA (2013) in Fine and Applied Arts, all with distinctions. He got a scholarship for a Postgraduate Diploma in Museum and Heritage Studies (2011) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) South Africa, also graduating with distinctions. He is currently a doctoral student of Visual History with focus on Photography at UWC. He holds two awards for the programme – Andrew Mellon fellowship and Ivan Karp Doctoral Research award. His project focuses on how the photographic practices enabled by digital technology and enacted on Facebook constitute alternative spaces for civil resistance in Nigeria. In a broader sense, Agbo is interested in how creative productions in the visual arts get appropriated in sociocultural, political and historiographical contexts.
