Biography

I obtained both my BS (Hons) degree in Industrial Chemistry (1980) and MSc degree in Brewing Science and Technology (1985) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I lectured at both Anambra State University of Science and Technology (ASUTECH), and Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) from 1987 up to 1994 when I left Nigeria for UK for my PhD studies. I was a Senior Lecturer in 1994 at Enugu State University of Science and Technology. I obtained my PhD in Brewing from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland in 1997. I worked at Heriot-Watt University for 3 years. I also worked at Scotmalt Trading Company – the Malt Extract Factory, Edinburgh as Laboratory Manager for 3 years before joining the Scotch Whisky Research Institute, my current employment. I am currently a "Visiting Professor" at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I am developing a core research in the area of converting solid renewable waste plant materials to energy (Bio-ethanol). The aim is to help ensure food security by using renewable waste material for industrial processes, mainly bio-ethanol, whilst quality materials remain as food source for humans. Two solid papers titled • "Use of waste materials from plant origins (yam) as a major raw material for bio-ethanol production - a practical approach" and: • "Bio-ethanol production from Dioscorea bulbifera tuber (local name – “Aduegbe”) – A renewable non-cultivated, non-food, waste material in Nigeria” have been published in the Journal of Solid Waste Technology and Management in 2013 and 2014 respectively (see details below). I was elected Fellow Institute of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (FIBD) I am also recognized in Marquis Who's who Biography.
