Biography

Born in 1944 in Mputu village of Ukpor town in the present Nnewi South Local Government Council Area of Anambra State. Professor Frank Akamigbo entered secondary school in 1958 and came out in flying colours in 1962. His class followed the foundation class of Zixton Grammar School, Ozubulu. Higher school education was held at Hope Waddell Training Institute Calabar. In both secondary and higher school colleges, he won academic prizes as the best student of the class in the final examinations. He taught for 8 months in 1965 before joining the University of Ibadan to study Agriculture. At the end of the first year he won the University of Ibadan Scholarship to complete his degree on that scholarship. During the long vacation in 1966, the pogrom which precipitated the Nigerian civil war was taking root in parts of Northern Nigeria. He transferred to the University of Nigeria as a result of the civil war in 1996. At the end of the war, academic work resumed in 1970 and he graduated in 1971 in the then Department of Plant/Soil Science. He graduated top of his class and the only student with a second class upper division (21). Professor Charles is a Professor of Pedology Science 1992, a Knight (KSM) of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, an ‘Ozo’ titled man, an Ichie and a Cabinet member of the traditional Igwe of his town.
