Igbonekwu John O
University of Nigeria
I was born at Jos on November, 28, 1959. I had primary and secondary education in present Enugu State. I picked interest in theatre through school drama performance, and later had a stint in television drama performance in 1980. I read Theatre Arts at University of Calabar, 1982-86, and had predilection for theatre technologies and media production. I had my first experience in academic teaching during National Youth Service Corps at Benin City in Institute of Journalism 1986-87. I sought experience in professional theatre acting, directing and production in late 1980s. I emerged later as an impression, producing four plays and repertories per week for two years. I took theatre to many secondary schools in the state. Important people and groups in the theater I collaborated with me Howard Davies (Director, National Theatre London), Nicky Wright (Resident Playwrith, National Theatre London), Bode Sowarde, Bubbles Theatre London, Domnic Cassidy and Philippe Knight, John Martins (Peter Pan Project, UK), among many others. I served as a produce to Ozulumba Darce Troupe of Enugu State Culture Department and I put up various important performances at government function in former Anambra and present Enugu State. I took pro-proficiency courses in theater, entrepreneurship and management. I picked appointment with University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1994. I served in department, faculty and on presentation, University committees. I inherited the unwieldy spectrum of the duties of the technical programme of the department and fought all the inherent academic course. I extensively and critically analyzed and restructured the above, leaving some landmark results like the pavilion theater and an upsurge in students interest in technical theater and resources productivity, among numerous other innovations.
