Njoku Obioma Uzoma

Biography

Obioma Njoku had his secondary education at Dennis Memorial Grammer School Onitsha and Government Secondary School Owerri and tertiary education at university of Nigeria, Nsukka where he graduated with B.Sc (Hons) in 1986, M.Sc 1990 and Ph.D 1994. He was an IDRC Research Fellow at the University of Saskatoon Canada 1994 and first winner of the prestigious TWAS/NAS Young Scientist Award, 1997. Obioma Njoku is a Professor of Lipid Biochemistry in the Department of Biochemistry since 2001, and has research interest in the following areas (a) Lipid and Lipoprotein Metabolism (b) Lipid Biopharmacology (c) Natural Product Research (d) Renewable Local Materials for Industrial Processes Obioma Njoku has attended a lot conferences both locally and internationally, and has contributed and is still contributing to the growth of Biochemistry locally and internationally. Have supervised and graduated over 50 postgraduate students 9 – Ph.D, 41 M.Sc student lecturing in different Universities and Research Institutes in Nigeria. Currently supervising over 10 Ph.D and 32 M.Sc students. Professor Njoku is the National President of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a member of the international union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He had earlier served as Head Department of Biochemistry, Dean and Associate Dean Faculty of Biological Sciences. Currently he is serving as the chairman Board of Directors of the University of Nigeria Consultancy Services Ltd, and Director University of Nigeria Consultancy, in the Vice Chancellor’s Office. He has over 120 publications, and has contributed chapters in many Biochemistry Textbooks. Obioma Njoku is the 20th Inaugural Lecturer of the University of Nigeria.
