Biography

Sister (Dr) Rose Uchem, MSHR, is a senior lecturer in Christian Religious Education and Comparative/International Education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Her research interests include contextual theological education with a view to eradication of violence against women. She teaches at both post-graduate and undergraduate levels. She is also a supervisor of post-graduate students’ thesis. She has worked on gender, religion and environmental issues in several different global settings including Sierra Leone, Ireland, United States of America, England as well as parts of Nigeria. In 2012, she spoke at the 56th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. She was a visiting lecturer (Missiologist in Residence) at the Crowder Centre for Mission Education, Oxford, and lectured on contextual theology in Oxford University. Under the auspices of Ifendu For Women’s Development, her grassroots non-profit organization, she has received training grants from major funding agencies such as Global Fund for Women, MISSIO Munchen, Conrad Hilton Fund for Sisters, MISSIO Aachen and Ecumenical HIV and AIDS Initiative in Africa, among others. Also a past executive committee member of the International Association for Mission Studies (IAMS), she is a contributing editor of Mission Studies: the academic journal of IAMS and editor of African Journal for Mission in Context (AMC). Among her many publications, the latest is Educating for Climate Change Mitigation in Nigeria. Saarbrücken, Germany: LAP Lambert Publishing Company (2012).
