Mr E. J. Whitaker

Biography

Mr. Whitaker currently serves as General Counsel for 10x Genomics and is responsible for all legal matters. Mr. Whitaker has served as chief legal counsel for Fortune 500 and high-growth technology companies in Silicon Valley, including recent roles as the Chief Legal Officer of Nutanix, Chief Legal Officer of SanDisk, and General Counsel of Tesla. Prior to these roles, Mr. Whitaker spent seven years as EVP of Corporate Strategy and General Counsel at Lexar where he led all legal aspects of Lexar’s rapid growth from a small start-up company to one of the largest companies in Silicon Valley. There he developed an intellectual property strategy that led to a ten-fold increase in Lexar’s patent portfolio, including one of the largest IP judgments in California history. Mr. Whitaker was recognized as one of the 25 Leading General Counsel in California. He has served on NASDAQ's Silicon Valley Advisory Committee and on the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School. Mr. Whitaker started his legal career at Latham & Watkins in San Francisco, specializing in intellectual property and antitrust litigation after receiving his JD from Stanford Law School, where he was the Senior Editor and Ombudsman of the Stanford Law Review. Prior to law school, he graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Politics and worked in the United States Senate, serving as a Legislative Assistant for Senator Warren Rudman.
