Biography
Prof. Ignace B. Vergote, MD, PhD serves as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Gynaecologic Oncology at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. Prof. Vergote has extensive preclinical experience in the use of alpha- and beta-emitter based radiopharmaceuticals and extensive clinical trial experience. He serves as the Chairman of the Flemish Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Vice-President of the Society of Robotic European Gynaecological Surgery (SERGS) and Coordinator of the European Network of Gynaecological Oncological Trial groups (ENGOT). Prof. Vergote served as Chairman of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Gynecologic Cancer Group from 1997 to 2003 and President of the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) from 2003 to 2005. From 2006 to 2008, he was President of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS). He is the chairman of the Protocol committee of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Gynecologic Cancer Group. He was the founding member of the Flemish Gynecologic Oncology Group and served as first chairman of that group from 1996 to 2001. Prof. Vergote serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Algeta Asa. He served as a Member of Clinical Advisory Panel at Quest PharmaTech Inc. since July 2010. He served as a Member of Clinical Advisory Board at Prima Biomed Ltd. since March 25, 2014 until May 19, 2016. He is the Author of more than 50 original full papers in peer-reviewed journals, together with 45 book chapters and has edited several books on Gynaecological Oncology. He trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, before specialising in Gynaecologic Oncology in the Department of Gynaecologic Oncology at the Norwegian Radium Hospital.
