Biography
Mr. Helgerud is the Alginate Core Technology Manager and Managing Director at FMC BioPolymer AS. He has an MSc in organic chemistry and petro-chemistry at University of Oslo in 1984. He joined the Department for Hydrocarbon Process Chemistry at the Center for Industrial Research in Oslo (now part of SINTEF), mainly doing contract research related to heterogeneous catalysis in natural gas and refinery processes for oil companies. He moved to Pronova Biopolymer in 1992 as laboratory manager and has since been working with biopolymers and products derived from seaweed. Trond assumed responsibility for alginate R&D and technology support after the acquisition of Pronova by FMC Corporation in 1999. He has been engaged in R&D and business development projects internally in FMC Corporation and with customers and partners worldwide.
