Michael W. Bonney

Biography

  Mr. Michael W. Bonney, also known as Mike, B.A., serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Kaleido Biosciences. Mr. Bonney serves as an Advisor to the (prime minister) Cameron Commission on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Mr. Bonney more than 30 years of operational, commercial and senior management expertise in the biopharmaceutical industry. He focuses on the formation, development and strategy for new portfolio companies. He was involved in the creation of the GAIN act. He served as a Partner at Third Rock Ventures, LLC from January 2016 to July 2016. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Cubist Pharmaceuticals LLC from June 11, 2003 to December 31, 2014 and served as its President from January 2002 to July 2, 2012 and Chief Operating Officer from January 2002 to June 2003. He served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of TerraGen Discovery, Inc. since June 11, 2003. He oversaw the most successful launch of an I.V. antibiotic in U.S. history. He served as the Chief Operating Officer of TerraGen from January 2002 to June 2003. From 1995 to 2001, he held various positions of increasing responsibility at Biogen MA Inc., including Vice President of Sales and Marketing from 1999 to 2001. At Biogen, he built the commercial infrastructure for the launch of AVONEX(R). He held various positions in sales, marketing and strategic planning at Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, ending his eleven-year career and served as its National Business Director. From 1984 to 1995, he advanced through sales, product management and sales management positions. He demonstrated his leadership abilities by presiding over a sales group of over 1000 people and honed his bio-pharmaceutical administrative skills by launching key products and oversaw a major two-year process- reengineering program. He has been the Chairman of the Board of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since December 2015 and also has been its Director since December 2014. He serves as chair of Kaleido Biosciences. He serves as the Chairman of Magenta Therapeutics, Inc. and Bates College. He served as the Non-Executive Chairman of Cubist Pharmaceuticals LLC from January 1, 2015 to January 31, 2015 and served as its Director since June 11, 2003 until January 2015. He serves as a Director of Manufacturers of America, Tekla Capital Management and Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. He has been Director of Sarepta Therapeutics, Inc. since December 5, 2017. He has been a Director of Celgene Limited since April 14, 2015 and Celgene Corporation since April 14, 2015. He has been a Trustee of Tekla Life Sciences Investors and Tekla Healthcare Investors since 2011. He served as a Director of Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc. from February 8, 2016 to June 20, 2017, TerraGen Discovery, Inc. since June 11, 2003, Cubist Pharmaceuticals LLC from June 11, 2003 to January 2015 and NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from January 2005 to February 21, 2015. He also served as a Member of Biogen's clinical development review board. He served as Director of Revolution Medicines, Inc. He served as a Director of Gulf of Maine Research Institute until June 16, 2017. He was a regional winner and national finalist (2013) in the life science segment of Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year; was a finalist (2011) in DJ/Morningside CEO of the Year and was recognized as the Top CEO in Massachusetts by the Boston Globe (2008). He received the MASSBio Innovative Leadership Award in 2010. Mr. Bonney holds a BA Degree in Economics from Bates College.
