Biography

  Dr. William C. Hahn, also known as Bill, M.D., Ph.D., serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine of Harvard Medical School. He is a Medical Oncologist, cancer researcher in the Department of Medical Oncology, and Professor at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. He is also the Chief Research Strategy Officer and the Chief of the Division of Molecular and Cellular Oncology in the Department of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Hahn serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medical Oncology, Division of Molecular and Cellular Oncology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He serves as an Associate Physician in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women''s Hospital. He serves as an Associate Editor of Cancer Research; and is the Section Editor of Biochimica et Biophysica Acta Reviews on Cancer. He is an Institute Member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. He is both a leading scientist and physician involved in biomedical research and in the care of cancer patients. He served as President of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and was elected to the Association of American Physicians. He serves as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Selventa, Inc. (also known as Genstruct, Inc). He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Dual Therapeutics, LLC and Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. and Blueprint Medicines Corp. He served as a Member of Medical Advisory Board at TransMolecular, Inc. since October 2007. He served as a Director of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc., until February 21, 2016. Dr. Hahn focuses on understanding the cooperative genetic interactions that lead to malignant transformation and the creation of novel experimental model systems for the study of normal and malignant epithelial biology. He is devoted to the development of new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of prostate and lung cancers. He serves on the Editorial Boards of Cancer Biology and Therapy, Cell Cycle and Carcinogenesis. He has been engaged in clinical care and research at Dana-Farber since 1996. Dr. Hahn is an author on over 100 original articles, reviews, chapters and editorials. His research focuses on understanding how mutations cooperate in cancer initiation and progression to develop rational combination therapies. Widely recognized for his work, he was honored with the 2015 Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Award from AACR and the Ho-Am Prize in Medicine in 2010. Of his many other awards and professional affiliations, Dr. Hahn received the Wilson S. Stone Award from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for outstanding research in cancer and the Howard Temin Award from the National Cancer Institute. He attended Harvard College and then Harvard Medical School where he completed his clicinal and Medical Training in internal medicine and his Graduate Training in molecular and cellular immunology. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed a clinical fellowship in medical oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. Dr. Hahn holds his Ph.D., in Immunology and M.D. from Harvard Medical School and A.B. in Biochemical Science from Harvard University. He conducted his postdoctoral studies in the lab of Robert Weinberg at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research.
