Leland Powell Md, Phd, Facp
DIVISION OF HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY
VICE-CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE, OLIVE VIEW-UCLA MEDICAL CENTER
John Hopkins University
Dr. Leland Powell has been a member of the Division of Hematology-Oncology since 2001, joining the faculty after three years in private practice hematology/oncology in the San Fernando Valley and seven years on faculty at UCSD. He received his MD and PhD degrees at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, completed his residency training at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, and then moved to San Diego to complete a post-doctoral fellowship and his clinical fellowship training at UCSD.
He stayed on there as faculty doing research on carbohydrate-binding proteins in hematopoietic cells while developing clinical trials in GU cancers and working in the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the San Diego VAMC. He moved to the San Fernando Valley to work in a clinical practice affiliated with the clinical trials organization at UCLA before moving on to Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. As the only public safety-net hospital serving a patient catchment area the size of Pittsburgh, he has found it both clinically fulfilling and an excellent teaching venue. During his tenure at OVMC, he has worked in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, served five years as the Associate Medical Director, and currently serves as Vice Chair
