Biography
Maryam Wasif Khan is Assistant Professor of English and Comparative Literature. She received her doctoral degree in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles under the supervision of Professors Aamir Mufti and Felicity Nussbaum. She also holds an A.B. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University. Maryam’s research and teaching interests include British orientalism, Muslim reform, world literature, Urdu serial plays and popular narratives. Her work has appeared in Modern Fiction Studies (MFS), Modern Language Quarterly: A Journal of Literary History (MLQ) and PMLA. She is currently working on a book manuscript that argues against a scholarly investment in a global Anglophone literature, and instead advocates a somber re-examination of vernacular and popular literary forms in the light of the alarming rise of populist movements in the Western and colonized worlds.
