Biography
Dr. Shafique is serving at SDSB as Assistant Professor in strategy and innovation management. He earned his PhD in 2016 from Maastricht University and the United Nations University, The Netherlands, in the field of Economics and Management of Innovation and Technological Change. His doctoral research concerned with the detection, depiction, and prediction of transformative technological change and resulted in a PhD thesis titled "Essays on the role of knowledge, R&D, and technology-based firms in the evolution of socio-techno-economic system". One of the essays was published in Strategic Management Journal during the project. He also used his research to set up a research-and-development startup, TailorBirds R & D Network (Pvt) Ltd. Dr. Shafique has also earned an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, and an MBA (with High Distinction) from the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. He has received twice the presidential award of academic excellence, Aizaaz-e-Sabqat. Since 2002, he has served as full-time faculty member in the area of business management at several universities including the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Foundation University Islamabad, National University of Sciences and Technology Islamabad, and International Islamic University Islamabad.
Research Interest
The research of Dr. Shafique is broadly concerned with understanding the interaction between the macro and micro dynamics of innovation and technological change with a view to contribute toward more productive R&D strategy, innovation strategy, technology foresight, and the science, technology, and innovation policy. Being an advocate and practitioner of transdisciplinary research, he uses the evolutionary, network, and system-theoretic perspectives to integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines including the history of technology, economics, sociology, and strategic management. He teaches courses related to strategy, organization theory, and technology and innovation management.
