Biography
I joined the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in August 2010 as a full time faculty member after studying abroad in Europe and the United States for six years. Before joining LUMS, I completed a Master of Theological Studies (focus: Islamic Studies) at Harvard Divinity School, and worked with the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Islamic Studies Program at Harvard University. Earlier, at two universities in Austria and Spain, I completed an International Master in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies (focus: Religion/Islam and Peacebuilding). Due to my personal orientation and academic training I am especially inclined towards discussions involving Liberation Theology, Religious Pluralism, Religious Peacebuilding, Islamic Jurisprudence in its historical and contemporary roles, Law of war/Jihad, Muslim and the Other, and Islamic Intellectual History. I have also been educated and involved in Human Rights advocacy and activism while working with War Against Rape in Karachi. In my previous life I spent about seven years in the field of accounting and auditing but was very fortunate to move on to more fulfiling occupations such as Human Rights, Peace Studies and Religious Studies.
