Biography

CLAVERIA, after completing her basic education in Malita, Davao del Sur, She then pursued her Bachelor of Science in Biology at St. Louis University, Baguio City. In 1975, She obtained her Master of Science in Zoology degree from the Ghent State University, Belgium, where She began to develop interest and fascination in research with worms. Her thesis centered on the biology of a free living dorylaimid or roundworm nematode, Neoactinolaimus duplicidentatus Andrassy. Upon her return to the Philippines in 1975, She taught at St. Louis University but she felt there was something missing…"the longing to carry out research". Armed with a Masters degree then, in 1980, She applied for a teaching post in the College of Science, De La Salle University-Taft. In 1882, having been awarded a Fulbright Hays scholarship, She pursued her PhD in Biological Sciences (major in parasitology) at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, and completed the degree in 1987. The additional four years of postdoctoral training at the National Center for Protozoan Diseases, Obihiro University, Japan further honed her research in research particularly on zoonotic protozoan and helminthic infections. Her experiences as an administrator in different capacity together with the challenges as teacher and a researcher have further moulded her into what She have become today.
