Biography
Dr. Derick Erl P. Sumalapao is a faculty member of the Biology Department in De La Salle University teaching biology and mathematics courses. He has earned his academic degrees in Mathematics, Biology, Masters of Science in Applied Mathematics with specialization in Operations Research from the University of the Philippines. He is currently completing his doctoral program with specialization in Medical Microbiology in the University of the Philippines. Over the years, he has been actively involved in the academe doing several researches and teaching various courses. Having a degree in Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines Manila-Philippine General Hospital, Dr. Sumalapao is also a medical practitioner and a clinical researcher. His researches and interests are primarily on mathematical models, clinical studies, and systems biology. His collaborations with other researchers on topics involving infectious diseases, medical and clinical practices, pharmacology, physiology, and environmental treatment procedures have been presented and published. At present, he is into mathematical modelling of biological systems involving antimicrobial resistance, immunologic responses, disease surveillance, and pharmacologic drug formulation.
