Biography
"Bas is the director of the Global Rice Science Partnership, the CGIAR Research Program on Rice. With an annual value of around 100 M $US, GRiSP strategizes and aligns the rice research for development agenda of a global partnership of over 900 partners worldwide from the governmental, nongovernmental, public, private, and civil society sectors. Bas provides strategic leadership and directs the program on science and research, strategic and development outcomes, and impacts on food security, poverty alleviation, environmental sustainability, and gender equity. Bas is an agricultural engineer and agro-ecologist with more than 25 years of experience working in Asia, Latin America, and Europe. He is an internationally-recognized expert on sustainable agricultural development and food security, with specific expertise on water management and rice. He has authored and co-authored over 250 scientific papers, and wrote and edited 5 books. He holds positions on various international advisory bodies (eg the Sustainable Rice Platform) and is member of the prestigious Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities."
