Biography
"Karen A.K. Moldenhauer is a Professor of Crops, Soils, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas and a holder of the Rice Industry Chair for Variety Development. She belongs to the University of Arkansas System, Division of Agriculture, Rice Research and Extension Center in Stuttgart, Arkansas. She earned her BSc and PhD from Iowa State University and her MSc from North Carolina State University. Dr. Moldenhauer has conducted applied research in the area of rice breeding. During her tenure as project leader for the rice breeding and cultivar development program at the University of Arkansas, 28 rice cultivars have been released to producers, which have had a substantial impact on rice production in Arkansas. Her primary research focus is on improving grain yield, cooking quality characteristics, and disease resistance. Her releases, Drew, Kaybonnet, and Katy, were the first commercially available cultivars with resistance to all of the common blast races in the southern U.S. rice-growing region."
