Biography
Adrian Balcombe is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal and is Head of the firm’s European Transaction Advisory Group based in London.With more than 15 years of private equity transaction services experience, Mr. Balcombe has worked with companies across a range of industries, including leisure, business services, retail, healthcare, aviation and transport, manufacturing and chemicals. He has advised on numerous private equity- and bank-led transactions, mid-market and large cross-border LBOs, both buy-side and sell-side. Mr. Balcombe is also one of the world’s leading advisers to the health club industry, having advised on more than 40 transactions in the U.K., continental Europe, Asia, Australia and the U.S.Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Balcombe was a Private Equity Transaction Services Partner at Deloitte in London and was instrumental in building this practice between 1997 and 2008. Previously, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked at KPMG from 1989 to 1996, first within the Audit practice, and later forming the first dedicated PE Transaction Services practice in 1993.Notable transactions include: Finance Director of the Administration of Air Europe and more recently advising on the refinancing of XL Airways, advising Morgan Grenfell PE on the acquisition of Laurel Pubs from Whitbread, Cinven’s sale of Fitness First to BC Partners, HBoS’s acquisition of David Lloyd Leisure, Nordic Capital’s acquisition and disposal of SATS Healthclubs in Scandinavia, 3i’s acquisition of SR Technics and FLS Aerospace, Shell’s creation of Montell Polyolefins, Bridgepoint’s MBO of Faith Shoes, PPM’s MBO of TMF, Cendant’s acquisition of NCP, RBPE’s P2P of Cannons Healthclubs, Close Brothers MBO of Minova and Englefield’s QAIQ and Danwood buyouts.
