Biography
Al Hutchens, is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Canada in Toronto, specializing in providing turnaround and restructuring advice to corporations and their stakeholders. With more than 20 years of turnaround and restructuring experience, Mr. Hutchens has advised a broad range of clients, including corporate boards and management, lending syndicates and secured creditors. He brings extensive experience in the review and development of business plans and financial projections; assessment and development of recapitalization and restructuring alternatives, and the negotiation of credit, inter-lender, and purchase and sale agreements. He has assisted clients across such industries as retail, construction, transportation, mining, financial services and automotive. Recent assignments include serving as: CCAA Monitor of H.B. White Canada (construction), CCAA Monitor of Target Canada, CCAA Monitor of Arctic Glacier, Interim Chief Financial Officer of Extreme Fitness (prior to and during its CCAA proceedings), Court-appointed receiver of Fibrex Insulations, financial advisor to the lending syndicate of a hotels and casino operator, financial advisor to and receiver on behalf of an OEM auto manufacturer and a heavy equipment manufacturer, and Court-appointed receiver of Redcorp Ventures (mining). Mr. Hutchens has been involved in a number of cross-border cases, including as CCAA Monitor of InterTAN Canada (the Canadian subsidiary of Circuit City), as Information Officer in the Canadian proceedings of Modular Space Holdings, Durabla Canada, TLC Vision and Chemtura Canada, and as CCAA Monitor and foreign representative in the Chapter 15 proceedings of the MAAX group of companies. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hutchens was a Partner in the restructuring and insolvency group of a Big Four accounting firm in Canada. Mr. Hutchens earned a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Ottawa He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee. He is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC), Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CIRP), and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
