Andrew Hildreth

Biography

Andrew Hildreth is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Disputes and Investigations in London, leading the European Economics practice. He brings 25 years of experience in economics and economic consulting on a wide range of issues. His primary areas of concentration are as an expert witness or in an advisory role in the competition / anti-trust, finance, regulatory and employment areas. Dr. Hildreth has worked with a wide range of law firms and clients in the U.K., Europe and the U.S., including American Express, MBIA, U.S. Bank, Lloyds TSB and BT. Previously, he was involved in an expert role in American Express v. Visa, MasterCard, et al. and MBIA v. Countrywide, both of which involved managing large teams of consultants, liaising with attorneys and clients, and modeling and predicting potential outcomes with large and complex datasets. Within the U.K. competition environment, Dr. Hildreth was expert for BT in matters brought by Ofcom (margin squeeze case); separately, he was an expert for Lloyds TSB in their appeal in front of the CAT (Competition Appeals Tribunal). He was the consultant to the European Commission (Eurostat) in their estimation of the effects of the introduction of Single Market measures. He has also been an expert in employment related cases in the U.S., notably as defense expert for Duran v. U.S. Bank, which has been granted review by the Supreme Court. Before A&M, Dr. Hildreth spent three years at AlixPartners LLP as a director, and two years at CRA International as a vice president, in their London offices. Prior to moving back to London, he was a Professor at the Department of Economics, Research Director of the Census Research Data Center, and Professorial Survey Researcher at the Survey Research Center, University of California-Berkeley. He was also a Special Consultant to Econ One in Los Angeles (a niche economics consulting firm). Dr. Hildreth has worked on matters in anti-trust / competition, private litigation, intellectual property, employment (including executive compensation), and wrongful death. Dr. Hildreth earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from City of London Polytechnic and a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Cambridge. He is a Freeman of the City of London through the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. A U.K. national, he is also a legal resident of the U.S. He has published numerous academic articles in peer reviewed journals. He has been quoted widely in both U.K. and U.S. national press and has been profiled in The Wall Street Journal.
