Biography
Brian Cumberland is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Taxand in Dallas, where he leads the tax practice for the Central Region and leads the firm's Compensation and Benefits practice.With more than 20 years of experience, he provides tax advice to corporate clients for executive compensation, including issues related to stock options, restricted stock, non-qualified retirement plans, deferred compensation, global compensation strategies, golden parachute rules and the one million deduction limitation.Mr. Cumberland also assists with the development of compensation strategies, benchmarking compensation, annual incentive, and long-term compensation programs to align with a company's business strategies and with consideration of the tax and accounting ramifications.He advises clients on qualified plans, including plan design, qualification issues, discriminating testing, IRS compliance and filings, and closing agreements with the IRS. He also has experience partnering with Fortune 1000 companies to develop worldwide strategic direction for delivering human resources services.Before joining A&M, Mr. Cumberland led KPMG's compensation and benefits group for the Southwest and KPMG's national tax practice in Washington. Mr. Cumberland earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Texas and a juris doctor from St. Mary's School of Law. He also received a master of laws degree in taxation from the University of Denver.
