Biography

Chandu Chilakapati is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Valuation Services in Houston, specializing in fair value of financial instruments and financial reporting related to derivative and hedge accounting, as well as traditional business and asset valuation advisory services.Mr. Chilakapati has provided valuation and risk management consulting services for more than 13 years. During that time, he has provided fair values to corporate clients on thousands of instruments ranging from swaps to exotic options across energy, interest rate and foreign currency underlying markets. He has an energy focus and has delivered valuation reports related to purchase price allocations, stock based compensation, energy derivative valuations, hedge accounting and tax valuations.Mr. Chilakapati started a valuation services company in 2010 that built web-based software to deliver valuation outsourcing efficiently. A&M Valuation Services acquired the team and technology to continue to provide corporate clients with independent fair value of their financial instrument portfolios. The technology can value swaps and options across energy, interest rate and foreign currency on a single platform. Combined with Mr. Chilakapati’s team, the technology provides financial reporting credit-adjusted fair values on an outsourced basis including hedge accounting effectiveness tests, sensitivities and disclosures. He has also created numerous valuation models that include Monte Carlo simulation for path-dependent instruments such as separable warrants, convertible debt, stock based compensation and other exotic instruments. His team provides fair-value support for debt, equity, leases, impairment and other financial reporting related valuation needs.Mr. Chilakapati has provided corporate clients with assistance across the transaction life cycle, beginning with pre-execution hedge strategy to measuring and monitoring risk to back-office support of valuation and disclosure related to the transactions. As a result of his broad valuation and financial reporting experience, he has been engaged as an expert to provide analysis and reports on valuation issues contested in connection with various litigation matters.Before A&M, Mr. Chilakapati was the President of ValSource Advisory Services, senior manager in KPMG’s financial risk management practice and a manager in Arthur Andersen’s financial and commodity risk consulting practice. He began his career in business school at Rice University working on the trading desk at El Paso Energy where he had experience with natural gas options, transportation and weather derivatives.Mr. Chilakapati earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Washington University in St. Louis and an MBA with concentrations in finance and risk management from Rice University. He has spoken at and moderated numerous national technical accounting conferences related to fair value and derivative and hedge accounting.
