Biography
Chris Broyden is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in London, in the firm’s Financial Industry Advisory Services (FIAS) practice. He leads our European Performance Improvement Practice. He brings over 30 years of broad-based experience in the financial sector, both in an advisory capacity and in a variety of senior roles in global investment banks. His core expertise is in planning and leading complex transformation programmes. Most recently, Mr. Broyden has assisted a European D-SIB to evaluate its global operating model with a view to identifying gaps which might impact the bank’s operational continuity in a resolution scenario, and to propose alternative models for consideration by the Board. Prior to that, Mr. Broyden led the engagement at a G-SIB to assist them in developing options for a revised operating model, in order to respond to regulatory pressure to provide resilient operations across the group. The engagement focused on the alternatives for establishing a bankruptcy-remote shared services entity, with a focus on the impact on the Bank’s technology infrastructure, operational and people-related components.Mr. Broyden has also worked for the FROB in Madrid, assisting the Spanish government to design and implement the ‘Sareb’, the asset management company set up in December 2012 to manage Spain’s non-performing real estate assets. He led the work to define the technology and operations model for the company.Mr. Broyden spent four years at Barclays Capital, where he held a number of senior positions as a member of the Global IT Executive Committee, including Head of Barclays Group Technology Sourcing, Head of Market Data Management and Head of Business Continuity. He played a leading role in the Lehman integration, managing all the non-front office work streams (finance, technology, operations, risk, HR, legal, etc.). Through 2009 he managed the divesture of BGI, the Barclays fund management business, to Blackrock, leading and co-ordinating all aspects of the divesture including tax, finance, regulatory / shareholder approvals, technology and HR.Mr. Broyden started his career as a management consultant with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in their financial services practice, based in London, and became an equity partner in 2000. During his 20 years there, he specialized in managing large scale transformational change programmes, such as the redevelopment of the London Stock Exchange’s core trading and information systems, and the development and implementation of a revised operating model for ANB Amro’s UK support functions.Mr. Broyden earned a bachelor of arts degree and an MA in modern languages from Oxford University. He is a British national and is fluent in English, French and German.
