Colin Gater

Biography

Colin Gater is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Transaction Advisory Group in London, with more than eight years of mergers and acquisitions and transaction advisory experience. He has worked on transactions on several continents in a broad range of sectors, including building materials, engineering, consumer goods and retail, mining, oil and gas and infrastructure. He specializes in providing buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence advisory services to both corporate and private equity clients. In addition, Mr. Gater has experience with financial due diligence, reviewing financial models, and advising on and negotiating SPAs, including pricing mechanisms, post completion purchase price adjustments, warranties and indemnities. Before joining A&M, Mr. Gater spent three years on the M&A team of Travis Perkins Plc and four years with KPMG on their transaction services team. His time there included 12 months in London and three years in Melbourne. While at KPMG, he also spent three months with their advisory team in Jakarta and four months with the corporate development team of Weir Group Plc. Notable transactions include: Travis Perkins Plc’s acquisition and integration of 13 Focus DIY stores, Victorian State Government’s refranchising of Melbourne metropolitan rail services, Wesfarmers’ disposal of 50 Coles supermarkets, Queensland State Government’s IPO of Queensland Rail, Banpu’s acquisition of Centennial Coal and DS Smith Plc’s disposal of Spicers Limited. Mr. Gater earned a bachelor of science, with honors, in human geography from the University of Reading. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
