David Jones

Biography

David Jones is a Director of Alvarez & Marsal Europe LLP in the firm's European Private Equity Performance Improvement practice. He brings more than 25 years of experience as an operator and as an adviser in the oil, chemicals and wider process industries. Mr. Jones helps companies enhance business performance by lending his expertise in the areas of  commercial and operational due diligence; procurement and sales contract structuring to manage price risk; optimization of production assets; organization design and head-count reduction; go-to-market strategy for commodities; trading of commodities and illiquid products; and restructuring of contracts in distress situations. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Jones was the founder of Industrial Commercial Ventures (ICV), a boutique advisory firm where he was responsible for working in interim and permanent capacities on behalf of key private equity and industrial clients in providing operational and valuation advisory, strategy and analysis for investors in the oil & gas, chemicals and biofuels sectors across Europe and North America. Notably, Mr. Jones was responsible for developing a go-to-market strategy to restructure contracts for an independent chemicals producer which led to a $5 million pa margin improvement.  He also identified 25% cost reduction options for the supply function of a U.S.-based oil refiner. Mr. Jones provided commercial due diligence of the 2500 km GPSS jet fuel pipeline system for a private equity fund in the UK government privatization process. As Interim Business Development Director, he developed the business and financing case for an additional facility for a private equity-backed biofuel company. Mr. Jones restructured key contracts to reduce price risk for the distressed private equity backed bioethanol producer, leading to lender sign-off and refinancing. Prior to forming ICV, Mr. Jones spent 15 years in various strategic commercial and chemical engineering roles with BP where he gained extensive experience across  the oil and chemicals value chain including leading pioneering commercial activity that led to significant margin improvement and risk reduction. Mr. Jones served as Commercial Director of Innovene, BP’s carve-out of its chemicals division that was sold to INEOS, and was responsible for $3 billion of purchases and sales. Mr. Jones earned a joint master and bachelor of engineering degree (1st class) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bradford as well as an MBA (with distinction) from London Business School. He is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers. Mr. Jones is a UK national.
