Biography

Hélio Novaes is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Brazil. He has more than 10 years of experience in banking (in Brazil and abroad) and 20 years as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in large companies. Throughout his career, he has been in charge of numerous transactions of capital raising, initial public offerings (IPO), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), project financing, trade finance deals, restructuring and renegotiations in diversified sectors and businesses. Before joining A&M, Mr. Novaes was a CFO in large companies in Brazil. He has been the financial and administrative leader of large teams in sectors such as commodities, pulp, sugar and ethanol, real estate, petrochemical, cosmetics and media. More recently, he worked for Brazilian companies in the restructuring of their operations, processes, capital structure and debt portfolios, leading negotiations with banks, legal firms, advisors and investors. Among the companies where Mr. Novaes developed his restructuring skills are Paranapanema, Eldorado Brasil, Odebrecht Agroindustrial and Quattor Petroquímica. Throughout his experience, Mr. Novaes was responsible for several debt, equity and M&A transactions on behalf of the banks and companies he worked for, having raised capital from diversified sources inside and outside of Brazil. He also played a relevant role in the combination of businesses in the Brazilian petrochemical sector by merging five different companies under Quattor Petroquímica, and supporting the growth and expansion strategies of Even and Gafisa in the real estate sector. Moreover, Mr. Novaes was responsible for the financial and administrative teams at Natura and Grupo Folha, coordinating their equity, debt, renegotiation, acquisitions and performance improvement strategies. Mr. Novaes earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), a post-graduation degree in finance from Fundação Dom Cabral and a degree in advanced management from Insead. He is fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French. He has also been a professor of finance at Insper.
