Biography
Jason Haggins is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal in New York. He advises clients on bankruptcy and accounting-based issues and specializes in evaluating businesses, developing business and recapitalization plans and providing strategic advice for building consensus among a company's various constituencies. Mr. Haggins regularly consults public and private companies facing allegations on issues of financial misconduct, such as accounting irregularities, asset misappropriation and regulatory non-compliance. He has expertise in assisting on financial statement restatements, securities litigation claims, damage calculations and regulatory inquires and investigations by the SEC and other agencies. With more than 10 years of domestic and international bankruptcy and forensic accounting investigation experience, Mr. Haggins has worked with clients across a broad range of industries, including commercial airlines, financial services, manufacturing, non-profits, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, technology and telecommunications. Most recently, Mr. Haggins advised a large financial services firm in its long-term effort to maximize the value of its assets, mitigate creditor claims and recover assets that were transferred prior to its bankruptcy filing to maximize the distributions to its creditors. He has also assisted in the restructuring of a multinational telecommunications company, where he served as interim controller for several of its entities while also co-leading the effort to recover assets that were misappropriated by its CEO. Mr. Haggins has also advised an international software company, which was the target of a hostile takeover bid, in the development of business and recapitalization plans. In addition, he has performed forensic accounting and economic analyses for the U.S. Department of Justice in connection with a civil forfeiture action targeting the assets of an international political figure. He serves as a board member of a private family foundation and chairs its investment committee. He also serves as a voting advisory board member of a multi-manager investment fund that invests in early and early-growth stage venture capital and SME finance funds based in emerging markets. Mr. Haggins earned bachelor’s degrees in accounting and economics from North Carolina State University and an MBA with specialties in corporate finance and capital markets from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
