Jim Grady

Biography

James M. Grady, a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in the Southeast Region, provides management and advisory services for corporate organizations. He specializes in providing turnaround, restructuring and business advice to distressed companies, lenders, creditors and other stakeholders. His primary areas of concentration are developing, implementing and leading strategic financial and operational turnaround plans, developing and monitoring cash and liquidity forecasting, developing and analyzing operating budgets and financial projections, and developing and negotiating refinancing and recapitalization plans, as well as plans of reorganization. With nearly 20 years of restructuring experience, Mr. Grady has advised clients in debt restructurings, loan workouts, bankruptcies, corporate turnarounds, and complex litigation. He has provided advice to clients in a wide range of industries including mining, retail, construction, manufacturing, public sector (school districts) and real estate.  Mr. Grady has served in both financial advisory and interim management roles where he led strategy implementation efforts. Mr. Grady’s engagement experience includes Alpha Natural Resources Inc., Clipper Windpower and Horizon Natural Resources, where he served as a lead restructuring advisor and provided support to the finance departments in each of these. He also worked on Longview Power / Mepco LLC, Bruno’s Supermarkets LLC, the Liquidating Trustee for Perry Uniontown Landfill and the Orleans Parish School Board engagements, where he served in the capacity as interim management, responsible for leading, developing and implementing various restructuring strategies. He served as an adviser to the UCC in the Capmark Financial Group Inc. where he was responsible for reviewing, monitoring, and advising other stakeholders on the restructuring plans of the debtors. Mr. Grady earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois. He is a Certified Public Accountant (IL) and a United States Navy veteran.
