Joe Gardemal

Biography

Joe Gardemal is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations in Washington, D.C. He specializes in providing consulting and expert witness services regarding damages, forensic accounting and fraud investigations. Mr. Gardemal has more than 25 years of experience in valuation and damages estimation in litigation matters, forensic accounting, auditing and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforcement proceedings. He has provided audit, business and litigation consulting services for clients in industries including technology; auto manufacturing, distribution and retailing; defense and aerospace; professional services; and insurance and reinsurance. Mr. Gardemal has provided expert testimony before arbitration panels, the U.S. Government Accountability Office, and U.S., state and federal courts and in international matters. Mr. Gardemal recently served as a forensic accounting expert for several large financial institutions in internal and government investigations and disputes involving investor accounting, internal controls and financial fraud related to real estate development and other investment vehicles. Mr. Gardemal regularly serves as an expert in disputes and investigations involving government contractors. Mr. Gardemal held the role of partner-in-charge of A&M’s engagement with Chrysler Group, in which the firm managed more than 90 terminated dealer arbitrations under Section 747 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010, and testified in numerous arbitrations related to the financial viability of dealerships. He frequently serves as an automotive industry valuation, finance and accounting expert on behalf of original equipment manufacturers, as well as a valuation and damages expert for the telecommunications industry. Mr. Gardemal founded A&M’s D.C. pro bono program in 2011, which provides financial consulting and expert witness services to underserved populations. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gardemal was a Managing Principal in the CapAnalysis Group of Howrey, LLP. Previously, he served as the Chief Fiscal Officer of the New Orleans District Attorney’s Office and worked as an auditor in public accounting. Mr. Gardemal served in the U.S. Army from 1986 to 2005 and commanded an Army Special Operations Command unit in Iraq in 2003. Mr. Gardemal earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loyola University in New Orleans. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Valuation Analyst and Certified Government Financial Manager. He is Accredited in Business Valuation by the American Institute of CPAs and is Certified in Distressed Business Valuation by the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors. Mr. Gardemal serves on the Boards of Directors of the Council for Court Excellence and Leadership Greater Washington. He is a member of the Montgomery County, Maryland, Office of the Inspector General Advisory Board.
