Joel Gustafson

Biography

Joel Gustafson is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Business Performance Improvement in Los Angeles, CA. His specialties include S&OP, project management, sales channel management and revenue enhancement for consumer packaged goods and recurring revenue businesses. Mr. Gustafson has significant experience serving the telecom, media and entertainment and consumer packaged goods. Mr. Gustafson project experience includes: Led a strategic sourcing engagement saving one of the world’s largest coffee retailers over 10% in top line spend   Worked with A&M’s telecom and restructuring teams for an international wireless carrier, helping them to understand the profitability on hundreds of products, leading to a discontinuation of unprofitable product lines, saving millions of dollars   Led an A&M team seeking process and consolidation opportunities for a high tech company in their Quote to Cash business process. Examined US and European operations.   Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gustafson was the Director of Channel Management for the Northeast region, for a major wireless carrier. As head of strategy/analytics, he was a member of a key executive team responsible for 3,500 employees and five million wireless subscribers.  In this role, Mr. Gustafson worked with the Northeast regional executive team to achieve revenue and operating budgets. He and his team were responsible for building $5.2 billion annual revenue budgets.  Mr. Gustafson and his team developed retail store opening/closing recommendations for a fleet of 1,000+ company and partner-owned stores. He led pre/post mortem analysis for regional marketing campaigns totaling $400 million+ annual in market investment.   In addition, Mr. Gustafson spent four years as the Director of Sales Planning for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. He and his team were responsible for planning the sales and P&L reporting of revenue in excess of $350 million and planned sales allocations for over 2,000 stores for retail partners. In his role, he worked with senior sales management and field sales teams to plan, track, report and execute sales strategies across multiple sales channels and major retailers such as Circuit City, Wal Mart, Toys ‘R Us, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, FYE and Ingram.   Mr. Gustafson holds a BA in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an MBA from Pepperdine University.
