Knut Konzelmann

Biography

Dr. Knut Konzelmann is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in Munich, with more than 15 years of advisory and corporate management experience. As CEO and COO he has led numerous restructuring, reorganization and performance improvement initiatives. He has worked with companies in a variety of industries including: automotive, engineering, manufacturing, distribution, energy, technology and services. In his last assignment Dr. Konzelmann was head of supply chain for a cable manufacturer (€1 billion in revenue). As part of a restructuring effort, he led the supply chain structural / organizational improvements and contributed to overall cost savings. He also served as CEO of a leading specialist in hybrid / mechatronic solutions for customer specific electronic modules based on ceramics / aluminum for auto and medical applications. There, he designed and implemented the operational restructuring program, including the program management office. Before that he was CEO of a contract manufacturing company, leading the operational improvement initiatives, including the introduction of a post-launch taskforce, lean manufacturing concept and a new setup of the supply chain and purchasing activities. Dr. Konzelmann also served as CEO of an engineering service provider focused on automated body in white production lines for the automotive industry. He was responsible for the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive restructuring program and the repositioning of the company's footprint in the market. Other assignments include: the implementation of a holistic cost reduction program including the management of the program office, the realignment of the R&D activities and processes, the installation of a product management unit, and the formulation and implementation of a new sale strategy at a major German robot maker. Before A&M, Dr. Konzelmann served as CEO and president for a North American subsidiary of Daimler Chrysler AG, where he was responsible for the overall management of the company and all its divisions. Other achievements include: leading the M&A process and the subsequent successful restructuring of the largest U.S. tool and die maker; start-up of an U.S.-based management consulting business focused on the auto industry; and leading an auto engineering services provider back to profitable growth. Earlier, Dr. Konzelmann was the managing director of an engineering and consulting company in Southeast Asia that specialized in the auto industry. In this role, he helped restructure the firm and led it on a path to profitable growth. Before that, he was responsible for the start-up of an in-house management consulting company for DaimlerChrysler AG. Dr. Konzelmann earned a master’s degree in physics (Diplom-Physiker) from the University of Stuttgart. In parallel, he was enrolled in the executive business administration course at the Fernhochschule in Hagen. He then joined the Max Planck Institute for Metal Physics to work on his thesis, and was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart. A German national, he is fluent in English and German and has a basic knowledge of French.
