Biography
Larry Gage is a Senior Adviser with Alvarez & Marsal’s Healthcare Industry Group in Washington, D.C. Mr. Gage brings more than 30 years of experience specializing in the healthcare industry. Mr. Gage has provided a range of essential services to his clients, including assisting major hospitals and health systems with mergers and acquisition, the creation of new physician organizations, the development of alternative reimbursement strategies and the negotiation of complex affiliation relationships between hospitals and physicians. Notable assignments include: representing the Alameda County Medical Center in connection with the potential acquisition of a community hospital and in creating a new physician organization for employed, contracted and community physician groups; representing University Physician Healthcare, a large faculty practice plan that also operates a former county hospital and two major Medicaid managed care plans, in merging with a university teaching hospital; representing the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and the Child Health Corp. of America in concluding a successful merger of these two national hospital trade associations; and representing more than a dozen major public hospital systems in converting to hospital authorities or nonprofit corporations. He also represented a major nonprofit teaching hospital in the Southeast in renegotiating its medical staffing agreements with two medical schools. Before joining A&M, Mr. Gage served for 30 years as President of the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, an organization he founded in 1981. He served as a Principal Member of the Hospital Quality Alliance and a member of the Governing Board of the University HealthSystem Consortium, among other positions. Mr. Gage is the author of "Special Report on Transformational Governance for Public and Nonprofit Hospitals," published in November 2012 by the American Hospital Association’s Center for Healthcare Governance. He was awarded the AHA’s prestigious Trustees Award in 2012. Mr. Gage earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard College and a law degree from Columbia University.
