Biography
Malcolm McKenzie, a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal, is head of our European Corporate Transformation Services practice and previously set up and built A&M's Performance Improvement practice. He brings 30 years of experience in advising senior management and boards on improving top-and bottom-line performance, and has completed more than 70 cost reduction, transformation, merger and acquisition, and carve-out engagements across corporate and private equity owned businesses.Mr. McKenzie has served on several boards and worked with Chairmen and Boards of Directors on evaluating and improving board and company performance. He has also led a series of research programmes into Board leadership. Since joining A&M 10 years ago, Mr. McKenzie has led and advised on many of the firm’s most significant performance improvement engagements which include: In telecoms - carve-out and 100 day plan for a European operator and disruptive growth for a new entrant. In retail and distribution - assessment of electrical retailer and distribution and turnaround for an electronics distribution business. In technology - board business review and improvement programme for a specialist software business and cost reduction for a technology business. In media - global merger integration for two production businesses and board review for a major media business. In energy and utilities - working capital improvement for an energy business and board and operating model review for a water company. In transport - stabilisation, improvement and business sale for a major bus operator, performance improvement and due diligence on a container business. In healthcare - cost base improvement for a health trust board and strategy review for a major London teaching hospital. In automotive and aerospace - operating model design and performance improvement for a major original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and manufacturing and operations improvement for a series of component manufacturers. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. McKenzie was a partner in a number of major consultancies including Ernst & Young and Cap Gemini, and he founded and led a JV consultancy with Robson Rhodes, as well as leading his own business. He has also advised regulatory and other bodies in the public sector. Mr. McKenzie earned a Certified Diploma from the ACCA, a master's degree from Cambridge University and an MBA from London Business School. Earlier in his career, he also qualified and practiced as a Chartered Engineer. He is a British national.
