Marcos Haaland

Biography

Marcos Haaland is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Brazil. He brings more than 25 years of professional experience in management consulting and in executive positions in different industries. He has worked in restructuring projects in stress situations and in performance improvement initiatives, with experience in the Agribusiness, Food, Oil & Gas and Industrial segments. He has experience in fast transformation and financial restructuring, including business plan development, valuation, debt renegotiation and fund raising . Currently he serves on the board of food and feed companies. Most recently he worked in a turnaround project management for a multinational industrial gases company covering eight countries in South America, leading initiatives related to HR and cost structure and conducting the PMO of over 100 initiatives of performance improvement in revenue generation, operations efficiency and cost reduction. He also acted as co-CEO and CRO (Chief Restructuring Officer) at a Sugar Cane Mill under ​a court supervised reorganization process, and served as CEO of Aeróleo, one of the major operators of offshore helicopters in Brazil, serving several clients in the oil and gas industry, in a performance improvement project. At A&M he also conducted several companies analysis and diagnostics. Before joining Alvarez & Marsal, Mr. Haaland worked in management consulting with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Thompson Management Horizons, and Table Partners, working in projects related to sectorial and business strategy, organizational design, operations and finance. He acted as CEO with Mogiana Alimentos, a feed and pet food company, conducting the growth process of the company and new market development, both in Brazil and abroad. During this period he was director and president of ANFAL and Sindirações, business associations in the feed and pet food market. He was also the CEO of Nutriplant, a specialty fertilizer company, leading its restructuring phase out of a bankruptcy process (concordata), growth and equity investment search, resulting in an IPO in the access market of BOVESPA, the São Paulo stock exchange. He is chairman of the board of Mogiana Alimentos, now a Joint Venture with a Spanish food group, has a seat in the board of Guabi Nutrição e Saúde Animal S.A, and is a member and former President of the Campinas chapter of IBEF – Brazilian Institute of Financial Executives. Mr. Haaland earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNICAMP, a MSc from University of Illinois and an MBA from INSEAD. He is fluent in Portuguese and English, and has working knowledge of Spanish and French.
