Biography
Mark Firmin, a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal, and Head of Insolvency in the U.K. He is also responsible for developing the U.K. regional restructuring business. Mr. Firmin has over 20 years of experience providing restructuring advice and support to under-performing businesses and their stakeholders. He specializes in helping boards to implement strategic, operational and financial restructurings and also helps businesses to develop contingency plans. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Firmin was U.K. Head of Restructuring at KPMG where he was responsible for 450 people operating in 17 offices throughout the U.K. He spent 21 years with KPMG’s restructuring practice, 11 as partner, and served on the firm’s National Markets and Deal Advisory leadership teams. Mr. Firmin works with businesses of all sizes, ranging from large public companies to small owner-managed businesses. His work often includes helping to quickly stabilise the business, improve stakeholder communication, generate additional cash headroom, implement an accelerated sale, and develop contingency plans. He has also worked extensively with financial investors and creditor groups of distressed businesses, providing independent advice on maximizing investment value or minimizing lending risk. In addition, Mr. Firmin has led a large number of insolvencies over the years and has been particularly successful in keeping businesses intact throughout the insolvency process, thereby maximizing value for stakeholders and preserving jobs. Whilst Mr. Firmin has a wealth of experience across a wide variety sectors in the U.K., recent experience includes retail, manufacturing, oil and gas, printing, mining, property and airlines. Mr. Firmin is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a member of R3 and a licenced Insolvency Practitioner.
