Biography
Michael Leto, a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal, brings deep expertise in business turnarounds and financial restructuring. His primary areas of concentration include operational restructuring and assessments, liquidity management, development of business plans, procedure and process improvements and implementation of ERP systems. Currently, Mr. Leto is part of the restructuring team involved in the wind-down of Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc. a $600 billion financial services firm in Chapter 11. Mr. Leto's responsibilities include global financial reporting, balance sheet review, system and organizational design and forensic analysis. Previously, Mr. Leto worked as an adviser to the finance group at Vopak Terminal Bahamas (VTB), one of the largest petroleum storage terminals in the world. His activities included business performance assessments and improvements, enhancing operational and financial processes, organizational assessments and assisting with the quarterly financial close process. Prior to A&M, Mr. Leto spent two years as a Vice President in the finance group at M. Fabrikant & Sons, a large diamond and jewelry wholesaler. In this role, he was involved in the evaluation and development of strategic business initiatives, construction and monitoring of cash management, sales of assets, development of monthly financial and operational forecasts and month-end financial reporting. Prior to M. Fabrikant & Sons, Mr. Leto spent four years as a Controller and Director of Financial Reporting with Cross Media Marketing, a telesales, print ad and Web marketing company. As the head of the accounting and finance department, Mr. Leto developed and monitored monthly operating budgets, cash flow projections, and implementation of ERP systems. He was also responsible for all preparation and filing of 10K, 10Q and other SEC documents. In addition, Mr. Leto worked closely with turnaround and advisory consultants, assisting with the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding, which entailed assessing the viability of the current business strategy; reorganizing the corporate structure; preparing bankruptcy documents, including 363 asset sale documents and disclosure statements. Prior to Cross Media, Mr. Leto was the Director of Financial Reporting with beMANY, a start-up telecom Internet company. Previously, he was a Senior Auditor with Arthur Andersen LLP, focused on the telecommunications industry, specifically fiber-optics and wireless communications. Mr. Leto earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hofstra University and master’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in management systems, from the Deming Scholars Program of Fordham University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in state of New York.
