Biography
Peter Gibson is a Senior Vice President with Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc. focusing on interim management and company / board advisory services as well as traditional turnaround, restructuring and insolvency mandates in the British Columbia and Prairie markets. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gibson was a partner with KPMG LLP and a Senior Vice President / Director of KPMG Inc. where he spent more than 30 years working in the financial advisory field and, in particular, providing restructuring, turnaround and insolvency-related services. He led these practice areas for KPMG in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver and has worked in Manitoba, Ontario, the U.S. and Europe. He has been involved in a wide variety of engagements for public and private companies, First Nations communities and various levels of government. He has served on two public company boards and has acted as both interim CFO and CEO for clients. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, he joined KPMG in 1981 and is qualified in Canada as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, Licensed Insolvency Trustee (licensed in Alberta and BC) and Institute Certified Director and in the U.S. as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Turnaround Professional, Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor and Certified Fraud Examiner. He has also acted as a presenter at various restructuring conferences, including those of the National Judicial Institute, the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, the Turnaround Management Association and a number of other professional organizations as well as to the MBA classes at both the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary. He was a member of the Corporate Practice Committee of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, serves on the boards of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the Risk Management Association (BC Chapter) and the Institute of Corporate Directors (BC Executive) and has acted as an examiner in the qualifying processes to become a Licensed Insolvency Trustee and Institute Certified Director. He has been recognized as an expert witness in court, has a reasonable proficiency in French and, as a holder of both Canadian and EEC passports, can work without restriction in these regions.
