Robert Hershan

Biography

Robert Hershan is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in New York. He brings more than 25 years of experience and deep expertise in managing complex asset finance transactions, with particular emphasis on structuring, tax, negotiation and problem solving functions. Since joining A&M in 2007, Mr. Hershan has provided restructuring advisory services at Oreck Manufacturing Corp. and Eos Airlines. He is currently serving as part of the A&M team at Lehman Brothers in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case where he is responsible for the estate's wind down of investments in derivatives' special purpose vehicles, as well as all human resources functions. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hershan was the President and Managing Director of two privately held U.S. firms, with affiliates in Belgium, France and Germany. As the Senior U.S. Partner, he led a team that carried out multi-national market structuring and placement of institutional investments for cross-border asset finance transactions based on commercial, tax, accounting and other regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. He also assisted a leading private equity firm with the acquisition of a major financial services company, advising on commercial, tax and legal issues, including pre-investment due diligence and business planning. Mr. Hershan's notable clients include domestic institutional equity and debt investors, foreign governmental entities, airlines, railroads, aircraft and other manufacturers. He has also advised global institutions, such as Airbus Industries / ATR, Air France, Burlington Northern, Conrail, Continental Airlines, Credit Lyonnais, CSX, General Electric , KLM / Martinair, Lufthansa / Condor, Qantas, Societe Generale, Sidmar N.V. (now part of the Arcelor Group), SNCF (French National Railways), STIB (Brussels Municipal Transit Authority), Union Pacific, United Technologies and USAir. Previously, Mr. Hershan was a Senior Vice President and Tax Counsel with D'Accord Incorporated, an investment bank specializing in domestic and international asset-based financings. As a marketing and tax professional, he organized and directed the firm's international operations in Europe. He was responsible for business development activities, transaction management and relationships with major airlines, railroads, manufacturers, U.S. institutional investors and international lending institutions. Prior to joining D'Accord, Mr. Hershan practiced tax law with White & Case and Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens in New York. Mr. Hershan earned his bachelor's degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
