Biography
Bob Koenig is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Financial Industry Advisory Services in Kansas City, specializing in the analysis of commercial credit risk and credit risk management policies and practices. His primary areas of concentration are commercial and commercial real estate loans, automated clearinghouse (ACH) risk, leveraged financing, syndicated loans, A/R factoring, problem loans, allowance for loan and lease losses, and internal loan review. As a former bank examiner, Mr. Koenig either led or participated in the domestic and international reviews of banks ranging in size from small community banks to large, multinational organizations. He has examined banks across the U.S., as well as Hong Kong, Tokyo and London. Before joining A&M, Mr. Koenig spent more than 34 years with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in the Midwest and New York City, serving on the OCC’s resident commercial credit team at a multinational banking organization. As a National Bank Examiner, he was Examiner-in-Charge (EIC) of dozens of bank examinations, and supervised all of the OCC’s work in two banking organizations with assets over $5 billion. Mr. Koenig managed Shared National Credit (SNC) work as a Site EIC or Team Leader in large banks on several occasions, and was one of two OCC examiners selected to complete large bank SNC quality assurance work. As a Co-Lead Examiner, he also completed OCC leveraged finance horizontal review work in four multinational banks, was the Lead Examiner for the OCC’s Large Bank Commercial Credit Network Leveraged Finance Subgroup, and completed OCC ACH horizontal review work in midsize banks. During his OCC career, he served as a member of the OCC National Credit Committee, OCC National ACH Working Group, and OCC Midwestern District Risk Committee. He has conducted numerous Board of Director meetings, taught several commercial credit schools, and served on industry panels. Mr. Koenig earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. He also completed a three-year program at the Colorado Graduate School of Banking in Boulder, CO, and a one-year program at the National Commercial Lending Graduate School in Norman, OK.
