Biography

Russ Battaglia is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations, supporting the litigation and regulatory practices of law firms, as well as the full range of business units within institutions that operate in the global financial markets including the commodities, derivatives and banking areas. Mr. Battaglia has over 20 years of experience operating in both the private and public sectors of the commodities and derivatives industries.  Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Battaglia was a Director in the forensic and investigative practice of one of the world's leading organizations of independent audit, tax and advisory firms.Mr. Battaglia was a Senior Economist in the Division of Enforcement of the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission ("CFTC").  While with the CFTC, Mr. Battaglia served as an industry expert and advisor to the Director of Enforcement and his staff of over 150 attorneys and investigators on CFTC investigations and litigation. Mr. Battaglia initiated and executed numerous investigations into commodities and derivatives markets activities and has worked closely with several regulatory and law enforcement agencies on enforcement actions and inquiries (FERC, DOJ, SEC and UK FSA).A former trader, Mr. Battaglia possesses in-depth knowledge of industry-wide operations gained through 15 years of experience providing clients with commodities brokerage and trading services. Mr. Battaglia has expertise across multiple asset classes and products, and has served a diverse client base that includes:  Physical traders and merchants, banks, hedge funds, commodity trading advisors, futures commission merchants and proprietary trading groups.In addition to providing investigative and litigation support, Mr. Battaglia also provides clients with advice related to internal compliance, risk and regulatory requirements.Mr. Battaglia has provided subject matter expertise and performed due diligence in energy industry related mergers and acquisitions.He has been sought after and served as a testifying expert in commodity industry litigation.Mr. Battaglia earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Delaware and is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
