Scott Fowler

Biography

Scott A. Fowler is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations in Houston. He specializes in real estate consulting and advisory services for virtually all real estate classes in North America. His client base includes multinational corporations, lenders, developers, REITs, private equity firms and pension funds. Mr. Fowler also brings significant expertise in the CMBS, public finance, net lease, loan origination and servicing markets. With more than 17 years of experience, Mr. Fowler focuses primarily in distressed real estate advisory services, underwriting due diligence and securitization services, acquisition / disposition due diligence, real estate valuation and strategy assessment, debt valuation / risk analysis and purchase price allocation analysis. Mr. Fowler's recent focus has been in the banking industry where he has acted in an advisory role with several regional and national banks with troubled real estate portfolios. These engagements include assessing policies and procedures, identifying current and future risks, and formulating plans to reduce the banks exposure to real estate losses.  Mr. Fowler recently acted as an adviser to a leading U.S. bond insurer with a significant exposure to underperforming assets. Initiatives included assessing risk to the insurer and bondholders, potential asset turnaround strategies, debt and collateral valuation and possible debt restructuring. He has advised several North American banks on their purchase and / or sale of loans and non-performing real estate. Mr. Fowler also assisted a major lender in the creation of a securitized lending platform and servicing operation for the bank. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Fowler was a Director with the Real Estate Advisory Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he focused on transaction advisory and capital markets activities throughout North America. Mr. Fowler earned a bachelor's degree in finance and a master's degree in land economics and real estate from Texas A & M University. He is also a member of real estate professional organizations, including the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) and the Appraisal Institute (MAI).
