Steve Ferguson

Biography

Stephen Ferguson is a Senior Director at Alvarez & Marsal Canada in Toronto. He brings more than thirteen years of accounting and financial experience, including more than ten years in turnaround consulting and corporate restructuring. Mr. Ferguson has considerable experience in development and evaluation of financial models, strategic planning, business plan development, distressed refinancing, employee and labor relations as well as court appointments under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA). He also has in-depth experience in the construction industry, including significant project management  experience and is well-versed in the Construction Lien Act (Ontario). He has assisted clients across a wide range of industries, including  retail,  energy, professional services, construction and infrastructure, telecommunications, mining, automotive, consumer goods manufacturing, agriculture and forestry.   Mr. Ferguson’s most recent experience includes acting as an advisor to management and board of directors of a large specialty retail company in the evaluation of strategic options, including real-estate footprint review, development of financial forecasts, development and evaluation of the Company’s business plan, negotiation with senior lenders and implementation of various operational and working capital improvements.   Mr. Ferguson’s additional experience includes acting as CCAA monitor of Target Canada Co, including overseeing the $90 million Target Canada Employee Trust, acting as an advisor to management and board of directors of a large publically traded architectural and engineering firm, acting as an advisor to a senior lending syndicate of a alternative energy plant, acting as an advisor to a privately held Canadian telecommunications company, acting as an advisor to a TSX-listed hospitality company in their proposed acquisition of a ten hotel portfolio, acting as an advisor to the senior lending syndicate of a TSX-listed Canadian infrastructure company, acting as an advisor to the senior lending syndicate of a Canadian transportation and logistics company, acting in the role of Court-appointed Receiver of a insulation manufacturing facility,  acting in the role of Court-appointed Receiver of large resort condominium development,   working in the office of the Chief Restructuring Officer of a  High River Gold Mines, a TSX-listed gold mining company, acting as Court-appointed Monitor under the CCAA of a tier one automotive parts supplier and a publicly traded forest products company and acting for a worldwide manufacturing company to obtain a new credit facility under distressed circumstances. He has worked with companies ranging in revenues from $2 million to $5 billion.   Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Ferguson spent almost five years at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he most recently was a Manager in the Corporate Advisory and Restructuring group.   Mr. Ferguson earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, with honors, from the Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario. He is a Chartered  Professional Accountant, a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional, and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee.
